The Cinderlace Licensing War was a fight over who could manufacture and license a new kind of heat-emitting surface. Cinderlace Cooperative had shown that knotted carbon lace membranes could make high-performance cooling and control over detectable thermal emissions commercially practical. These “extraordinary emitters” mattered to businesses that needed equipment to shed heat or manage its signature. Whoever controlled their supply would have leverage over the premium lunar and Belt economy.
The dispute began with patents and manufacturing standards. At stake was whether the technology would remain an industrial commons governed from the Belt, become a proprietary supply on which luxury businesses around Finch Cybernetics depended, or pass into the hands of a more powerful materials corporation.
Cryonix won by absorbing Cinderlace’s manufacturing arm while securing standards acceptable to insurers through PSC patent panels. It then used that victory to gain sovereign control over far-side lunar materials-clinic districts and a narrow Ceres-Pallas fabrication corridor. The corridor had previously been contested within the AU/Orbital Forge sphere. A dispute over production rights had changed who governed the places where valuable materials were made and used.
The war is remembered for that transfer of power rather than for physical destruction. Control of a scarce thermal technology had turned Cryonix from a supplier into a mega: a major corporate power with territory of its own.
