Cinderlace Licensing War
Date: 2364-2368
Location: Tycho materials courts, Ceres Polytechnic spinout yards, Ceres-Pallas fabrication corridor
Primary actors: Cinderlace Cooperative, Cryonix, Finch Cybernetics, Orbital Forge, PSC patent panels
The Cinderlace Licensing War began as a patent and standards fight over extraordinary thermal emitters and ended as a territorial realignment inside the premium lunar and Belt economy. Cinderlace Cooperative had proved that knotted carbon lace membranes could make premium heat rejection and signature shaping commercially real. The question was whether that breakthrough would remain a Belt-governed industrial commons, become a Finch-adjacent luxury dependency, or be consolidated by a harder materials power.
Cryonix won by doing three things at once. It absorbed Cinderlace’s manufacturing arm, secured insurer-friendly standards through PSC panels, and leveraged that victory into sovereign control over far-side lunar materials-clinic districts and a narrow Ceres-Pallas fabrication corridor previously contested inside the AU/Forge sphere. The war is remembered not because it was physically destructive, but because it proved that a thermal bottleneck could promote a supplier into a mega.
