Dr. Sel Veyra has spent years below the city building a cognitive ecology nobody funded, blessed, or wanted to understand. The room is finally answering him. The Portias are not tricks, not pets, not prototype labor, and not human minds wearing spider bodies. They are persons made legible through silk, heat, sightline, scaffold, and return.
That should be the miracle.
Instead, Veyra has to leave forced seclusion with infected implants, ruined credit, old warrants, a lab full of fragile citizens, and a story the world will hear first as biohazard, fraud, asset theft, or psychotic break depending on which institution gets the microphone. The player does not decide whether the Portias are real. They decide what kind of proof survives contact with people who need the answer to be no.
