Welcome to Elysium

Elysium is a sealed, hostile domain where humanity must survive after being displaced from the solar system. Its first successful breakthrough in faster-than-light travel made contact with something older and more dangerous than the test brief had prepared anyone for—something far less willing to share the universe. Humanity was thrown into Elysium rather than choosing to settle there.

The displacement carried an entire civilization with it. Fleets, corporate blocs, other institutions, uploaded minds, and labor systems came through together because they were already materially bound to one another in Sol. Their grudges and unresolved compromises came with them. These were people caught in a catastrophe, not a selected group of colonists equipped to make a fresh start.

Elysium offers places to explore and resources to extract, but it is also a garden that serves as a prison. Humanity has to survive the rupture while still carrying the systems and habits that shaped life back home, including its worst ones. Even reality itself does not reliably behave as humanity expects.
