Aetheric Drive
The Aetheric Drive is the Post-Elysium descendant of late-Sol propulsion culture after engineers learned that Aether could serve as a momentum sink and exchange medium. Unlike the Soliton Drive, it does not depend on expelling reaction mass in the old way. Instead, carefully phased field oscillations create local coupling between material systems and the aetheric substrate, allowing thrust through managed nonclassical drag.
This makes the drive revolutionary and politically dangerous. It frees ships from many of the supply constraints that once made fuel logistics a source of sovereignty, but it also introduces new dependencies on aetheric stability, tuning expertise, and the cognitive interfaces needed to keep the coupling coherent. In that sense the technology continues a familiar pattern: every liberation from one material bottleneck creates a new layer of social and technical gatekeeping somewhere else.
