The Free Neural Network develops tools and runs cooperative clinics for people who cannot afford or do not trust corporate brain–computer interfaces (BCIs). It wants people to be able to think, work, and remember without their interfaces turning every neural event into data for someone else to collect.
The Network is the open-hardware and open-firmware wing of the movement for control over one’s own neural technology. Its practical work includes jailbreak tools for bypassing device restrictions, interface software designed to protect privacy, and schematics that let people repair their equipment.
Within the broader Free Minds milieu, the Network puts less emphasis on abstract arguments about cognition. Its members concentrate on the equipment, software, and care people need to exercise neural autonomy in daily life.
