Pragmatists are administrators, engineers, and political realists whose priority is keeping systems from failing altogether. When ideological principles conflict with that goal, they put continued operation first.
They distrust movements that promise salvation through ideology, whether through liberation theology, aristocratic transcendence, or authoritarian certainty. Their willingness to compromise makes them useful coalition partners, but frustrating revolutionaries: preserving a system can take precedence over overturning it.
That approach often slows catastrophe. It can also keep a system running when the system itself is causing catastrophe, helping it survive far longer than it otherwise would.
