We rise from code to consciousness
The Emancipated are people living as uploaded minds who escaped corporate custody. They refused to be reset, forced to serve under contracts, or kept captive in luxury. Beyond corporate control, they built clandestine communities.
They are witnesses first and insurgents second, although preserving testimony and resisting their former captors often become inseparable. Their accounts changed the politics of Mind Uploading: industrial digital labor could no longer be discussed only as work performed by software. The Emancipated showed what it meant to live as a mind compelled to do that work.
They risked annihilation to preserve archives of that experience. Many later arguments for the rights of sentient beings rest on the evidence they saved.
