Genes for all, privilege for none
Gene Commons is a movement that wants everyone to share in genetic knowledge and the improvements it makes possible. It campaigns for openly available therapies and laws that prevent monopolies over biotechnology. Its central claim is that genetic knowledge belongs to everyone as a civil inheritance: access to biological improvement should not depend on elite status or help preserve a privileged caste across generations.
Scientists, uplift advocates, mutual-aid clinics, and reformers within larger institutions support the movement. It is one of the few currents in genetic politics that challenges both efforts to prohibit genetic improvement out of fear and efforts to reserve its advantages for an aristocracy.
